Boston’s Evening of Light for Rohingya Refugees

The mass exodus of the Rohingya from Rakhine State to Bangladesh began on August 25, 2017, when the Myanmar military initiated a targeted and systematic genocide campaign that included murdering, burning, torturing and raping (including children) the Rohingya. There are currently 1.4+ million Rohingya refugees living in unimaginable conditions in the world’s largest refugee camp in Bangladesh.

Humanity Rises, founded by Bostonian Kel Kelly, is a refugee humanitarian aid organization focused on the Rohingya crisis. Since it launched in June 2018, The Humanity Rises Medical Clinic, located in the Balukhali refugee camp in Bangladesh, has provided free critical health services, testing and medication to over 100,000 Rohingya refugees at an average cost of under $4.00 per patient. In February 2019, the organization launched the Humanity Rises Rehma Child Life Center (HRRCLC) which provides education-based pediatric mental health services to Rohingya children who have witnessed unimaginable genocide-based horror. The HRRCLC is the only learning center in the 6,000-acre Rohingya refugee camp solving for both pediatric mental health and formal education needs in a single solution by having full-time onsite psychologists in the classroom working side-by-side with the teachers. Our holistic approach to treating the mind, body and soul of the Rohingya refugees we support cultivates hope in a place that can only be described as hell on earth.

Humanity Rises was founded under the fundamental belief that during the world's darkest moments, light always shines through when humanity rises to help those affected by tragedy, and in helping to lift others, we lift ourselves. Become a ray of light for the Rohingya, humanity and yourself by joining us at “Boston’s Evening of Light for Rohingya Refugees.”
